Transmit At A Distance

Tribute to Clement, who was killed in Afghanistan

Ceremony tribute to Clement Chamarier will be chaired by Alain Juppe, the defense minister, now the barracks of Bourg-Saint-Maurice.

A tribute to Corporal Clement Chamarier will be held this afternoon at Bulle district's 7th Infantry Battalion Alpine Bourg-Saint-Maurice. It will be chaired by Defence Minister Alain Juppe, accompanied by Chief of Staff of the Army, Elrick Irastorza.

Chamarier Clement, 19, a native of St. Aupre near Voiron (Isère) died last Saturday at a attack of insurgent fighters, military officials said. Two other soldiers were wounded in the attack during which French soldiers were hit by a shot of anti-tank weapon made while traveling aboard an armored vehicle.

Chamarier Clement, who was hired in February 2009, is the second French soldier killed in Afghanistan since the start of the year and 54th since the commitment of French troops in that country in 2001 . Each battalion of Alpine lamented victims. The 13th BCA based in Barby, had two men killed in September 2007 and February 2010. The 27th BCA (Annecy) lamented the death of one of its own in March 2009. The 7th BCA arrived in Kapisa in November for a term of six months. It is installed in the forward bases Tagab and Nijrab, in north-east of Kabul. They are separated by 15 km in a mountainous area located more than 2000 meters above sea level.

In this valley considered strategic due to its proximity with Pakistan, the Alpine are in their element. They were experienced in the mountains that are the closest possible of what awaits them there. Elite unit, the battalion is known for its ability to operate in extreme conditions, including extreme cold, altitude and snow. The unit has an emotional anchor and historical fort in Haute-Tarentaise, where she participated in the Resistance and in the countryside of Haute Tarentaise 1944-1945. It occupies the area bubble Bourg-Saint-Maurice in 1955, she left in 2012 to Varces.
